About the book
Some of the best teams I’ve led were ragtag groups of people most leaders wouldn’t have picked. They stayed, came around the vision, and built some of our best work.
Look for the Overlooked challenges how we choose our teams. A reputation as an A player or a rockstar can hide an ego that makes everyone else’s work harder. Someone may be very good at a task and still be a poor teammate. Confidence alone tells us little about humility, commitment, or how someone treats people.
I want to look more closely at the people who are easy to pass over: the quieter ones who stay with a job, do good work without advertising it, and get along with the people beside them. They aren’t chasing attention or playing politics. Their contribution becomes clear over time.
This book is a study of my own leadership and the teams I’ve led. It asks what we miss when we hire for presence, how we recognize dependable people, and how a shared vision becomes something a team will stay and build together.
The meek shall inherit the earth. Pride comes before the fall. Those convictions sit at the heart of the book—and of the kind of leader I want to be.

Notes behind the book
The teams I’ve led
I’m drawing on my own experience with people others might have passed over: what we built, why they stayed, and what I learned from leading them.
What counts as performance
Getting something done well matters. So does whether the people around you can do their work well. I want to examine both when I think about who belongs on a team.
Humility and commitment
The book looks at the qualities that can be missed in a first impression: loyalty, steadiness, willingness to work with others, and commitment to a shared vision.
