Book One of the Pangea saga. Publication details will be shared here when the book is available.

About the book

To Alrek, his father was the man who taught him to fish.

To the soldiers who found them, he was a man worth killing.

Years later, Alrek has a home, people he trusts, and questions they refuse to answer. Why were they hunted? What did his father leave behind? And what could be so dangerous about telling him the truth?

When a clue to that hidden life surfaces, Alrek follows it beyond the refuge that kept him alive. With Eden and Hallbjørn beside him, he enters the wider world of Pangea, a land shaped by generations of conquest, distinct cultures, and the remains of civilizations long gone.

There are people who remember. Helping him could cost them everything.

And the power that silenced his father still has soldiers to spare.

The opening novel of the Pangea saga, an expansive epic fantasy of ancient civilizations, enduring loyalties, and kingdoms shaped by centuries of conflict.

The Day Before Night

A short opening passage from Chapter One.

Alrek crouched at the river's edge with his bare feet in the stream and both hands around his spear. A fish passed his toes. He followed it with the point, but it was gone before he could bring himself to strike.

Slightly upstream, his father stood with his spear above the water. Sunlight caught the silver in his hair. Nothing else about him moved. Alrek tried to hold himself that way, without shifting each time he saw a flash beneath the surface.

“Wait for it to come to you,” Leonhardt said.

Alrek nodded. He was nine, and there were things he could do well now. He climbed trees, carried firewood and sometimes caught a rabbit when he startled it close enough. Today he wanted his father to see a fish on the end of his spear.

“Do you think I'll catch one?”

“You might. Give them time.”

His toes curled into the wet sand. He had watched his father fish like this so often that he could picture the whole movement: the spear going down, the water breaking, the fish coming up. Keeping still until then was the difficult part.

The working tongue of builders, wardens, archivists, and oath-keepers. Its curved glyphs are carved into stone. A missing curve or reversed arc can change the meaning.
